New York City FC is set to visit TQL Stadium to face FC Cincinnati in the third matchday of the Leagues Cup.
FC Cincinnati aims to better their Leagues Cup showing this season, having topped their group last year by overcoming Sporting Kansas City on penalties and defeating Chivas 3-1, only to be eliminated by Nashville on penalties in the round of 32.
Currently second in the MLS Eastern Conference behind reigning Leagues Cup champions Inter Miami, FC Cincinnati advanced past Mexican rivals Club Queretaro with a 1-0 victory, courtesy of Yamil Asad's 64th-minute strike, securing their spot in the knockout rounds.
Meanwhile, New York City FC drew 0-0 with Queretaro but won 4-3 on penalties, with Luis Barraza's crucial save securing the extra point. This followed a run of four winless league matches under Nick Cushing, who recently marked his 90th game as head coach of NYCFC.
In their recent league encounter in March, NYCFC suffered a 1-0 defeat to FC Cincinnati, marking their fourth straight loss to them and extending their winless streak in all competitions to six matches since September 2021.
