Segunda Division winners Leganes will kick off their La Liga return with a match against Osasuna at Estadio El Sadar.
Osasuna parted ways with their long-time coach Jagoba Arrasate at the end of last season, as he moved to Mallorca. Vicente Moreno, who left Almeria last September, has taken over as head coach of Los Rojillos. Osasuna has maintained a steady presence in La Liga since their promotion in the 2018-19 season, with finishes of 10th, 11th, 10th, 7th, and 11th over the past five years. Last season, they ended 11th with a record of 12 wins, nine draws, and 17 losses, 12 points clear of relegation.
In the transfer window, Osasuna has made limited moves, signing left-back Abel Bretones from Real Oviedo and versatile attacker Bryan Zaragoza on loan from Bayern Munich. They have a strong recent record against Leganes, winning their last three encounters, including a 2-1 victory in June 2020.
Leganes, promoted as Segunda Division champions, return to La Liga after a four-year absence. They finished atop the second tier with 74 points, narrowly ahead of third-placed Eibar. Their previous La Liga stint saw them finish 12th and 14th in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons, respectively.
Under Borja Jimenez, Leganes has been active in the transfer market this summer, with notable signings including Miguel de la Fuente from Alaves, Renato Tapia, and Oscar Rodriguez. Their main departure has been goalkeeper Diego Conde, who moved to Villarreal. Despite this, Leganes looks well-prepared for their return to the top flight and is hopeful about avoiding relegation.
Prediction: Osasuna 1-1 Leganes
