Arsenal continues to monitor the European champion and is ready to improve its offer for him.
Arsenal has shown consistent interest throughout the summer in Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Mikel Merino. Previously, they made an offer of £21.5 million to the Spanish club, but it was rejected.
According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners are not planning to give up and will continue to pursue the player. It is believed that the English club is preparing to increase their offer to around £30 million in the near future.
Arsenal's sporting director, Edu, is currently in Spain to expedite negotiations for the player's transfer. Although Merino's market value, according to Transfermarkt, is €50 million, Arsenal hopes to secure him for less, as he has only one year remaining on his contract.
Merino is no stranger to English football. After debuting with Osasuna, he moved to Borussia Dortmund, and from there to Newcastle United. However, after just one year in England, the midfielder returned to Spain to continue his career.
At Euro 2024, Merino played a crucial role. He appeared in all seven of Spain's matches and scored the winning goal against Germany in the semifinals in the 119th minute.
