Braga:
Despite trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Chelsea is in good form across all competitions. They've won four out of their last five games, with their only loss at the Riverside. In the Premier League, they secured a 1-0 victory over Fulham in their last outing. Chelsea is unbeaten in their last five League Cup games at Stamford Bridge, winning four and drawing one. While their away form has been challenging, they've not lost any of their last seven home games, winning six (including one on penalties against Newcastle). Chelsea has a strong history in the EFL Cup, having won it five times, with the most recent victory in 2015. They were runners-up in 2022, losing on penalties to Liverpool. One notable triumph was a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough in the 1998 final, with extra time goals from Frank Sinclair and Roberto Di Matteo.
Sporting Lisbon:
After setbacks against Coventry and Aston Villa, Middlesbrough bounced back with a gritty 1-0 win over Chelsea and a convincing 3-1 victory against Millwall. Although they're in the playoff mix in the Championship, their main focus is securing a Wembley spot in the upcoming game. However, Middlesbrough faces the challenge of a dismal record at Stamford Bridge, with their last win dating back to 1975. Despite being underdogs, the unpredictability of Chelsea's season leaves room for fans to be nervous about the potential for a comeback and another shot at Wembley.
Analysis:
Chelsea were very wasteful in the first leg at the Riverside and they cannot be as profligate in front of goal in the second leg if they want to reach Wembley. Cole Palmer was uncharacteristically poor when finishing in that first leg, but I think he will be the catalyst here for Chelsea to turn the game around and book themselves a place at Wembley
