Old Trafford will be the stage for an electrifying Premier League encounter as Manchester United take on Liverpool.

Eight days after a lackluster win against Fulham, where Joshua Zirkzee quickly became a local hero, the Red Devils' new signing turned villain at the Amex Stadium last weekend, as Erik ten Hag faced a familiar sense of frustration.

Man United have now suffered their second defeat in three competitive matches this season, having also lost to Manchester City in a penalty shootout for the Community Shield. Despite Ten Hag avoiding the sack, the team has yet to show signs of significant improvement.

However, the Red Devils are on the cusp of winning three consecutive Premier League home matches for the first time since August 2023, after also beating Newcastle United at the end of last season. The upcoming match sees Erik ten Hag face off against Arne Slot, who, like Ten Hag, has a balanced record in their previous Eredivisie encounters, with each having won twice.

History is not in Slot’s favor, as no Liverpool manager in the last nine attempts has secured a victory in their first non-friendly match against Manchester United since Bob Paisley did so in 1975. Nevertheless, Slot has overseen two wins from two in the 2024-25 Premier League, with Liverpool scoring four goals and conceding none.

Liverpool's first-half performance at Anfield against Brentford was underwhelming, but their expected goals tally of 5.3 is the highest in the Premier League this season. In contrast, Manchester United have been known for conceding numerous shots.
