Japan vs Indonesia live preview Asian Cup
Japan:
In the final match of their AFC Asia Cup group stage campaign, Japan and Indonesia will face off on Wednesday. In Group D standings, Japan currently holds the second position after two matches, with Indonesia in the third spot. Japan experienced an unexpected setback on matchday two, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Iraq, marking their first group-stage loss in over 30 years and ending an 11-match winning streak. As the reigning Asian champions, Japan is eager for a quick rebound, knowing another loss could lead to elimination. A draw would secure their spot in the knockout rounds as runners-up, while a victory could propel them to the top of the group. Japan had a strong start with a 4-2 win against Vietnam on matchday one.
Indonesia:
After a 3-1 humbling by Iraq to mark their return to the continental stage after 17 years, Indonesia responded swiftly on matchday two. Shin Tae-yong’s men secured a slim 1-0 victory over Vietnam to eliminate their Southeast Asia neighbours. The win boosted their chances of advancing from the group stages for the first time in the country’s history. Indonesia, who last took part in the competition in 2007, have been eliminated at the group stage in each of their four appearances. The win over Vietnam ended a six-match run without victory and one that had seen them lose five times. A draw here will most certainly see the Garuda qualify for the next round as one of the best third-placed teams.
Analysis:
Japan are an exceptional attacking team and have been prolific whenever they have taken to the court. Indonesia on the other hand possesses a porous defence. Combining these two aspects of this match should see the game produce a higher number of goals.
