The nominees for Premier League Player of the Month have been announced, featuring Erling Haaland, Mohamed Salah, and Bukayo Saka.
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah are among the eight nominees for August's Premier League Player of the Month award.
Pep Guardiola's Manchester City and Arne Slot's team were the only sides to win their first three games of the season before the international break. City currently leads the table on goal difference, largely due to Haaland's remarkable performances.
The Norwegian striker kicked off the season with a goal in a 2-0 victory over Chelsea, followed by a hat-trick in a 4-1 comeback win against Ipswich Town. On the final day of August, Haaland scored another hat-trick in a 3-1 win against West Ham United, bringing his total to seven goals in just three matches. This feat made him only the second player, after Harry Kane, to score consecutive Premier League hat-tricks on multiple occasions. Haaland is now vying for his first Player of the Month award since April 2023.
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, who won the Player of the Month award in October 2023, is also in contention for his sixth award. Salah scored once and assisted another in Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town, and continued his impressive form with goals against Brentford and Manchester United. He also provided two assists for Luis Diaz in the Manchester United match. Salah recently revealed that he had not yet begun discussions for a new contract and hinted that the 2024-25 season might be his last at Anfield.
Arsenal's Bukayo Saka and David Raya are also nominated. Saka has one goal and three assists to his name this season, while Raya has kept clean sheets against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa, including a crucial save from Ollie Watkins in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer is in the running with four assists and one goal in the Blues' opening three games. Other nominees include Brighton & Hove Albion's Danny Welbeck, who scored in wins over Everton and Manchester United, and Aston Villa's Amadou Onana, who has netted twice in his first three matches.
Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo, with three goals in as many games amid speculation about Ivan Toney’s future, completes the shortlist.
