Reigning champions Feyenoord will kick off their KNVB Beker campaign with a last-32 match against lower-league side MVV Maastricht at De Geusselt.
Feyenoord, last season's Dutch Cup winners, began their new campaign with a 5-4 penalty victory over PSV Eindhoven in the Johan Cruyff Shield. Despite a slow start in the league with only one win from the first four matches, they are now fourth in the Eredivisie, seven points behind leaders PSV. Feyenoord's attack is strong, having scored 40 goals, and they will be confident following a 5-2 win over Heracles. Santiago Gimenez, with six goals in his last five games, has been key since returning from injury. They aim to extend their winning streak to four with a successful start to their KNVB Beker title defense.
This will be the first meeting between Feyenoord and MVV Maastricht since 2000, with the visitors having lost just two of the last 18 encounters.
Maastricht, who missed out on promotion playoffs last season, have struggled this term, sitting 14th in the Eerste Divisie with just one win from nine matches. They advanced in the KNVB Beker with a 2-1 comeback win over Den Bosch but have won only three of their last 10 matches in all competitions. Despite scoring 16 goals in that stretch, their defense has been shaky, conceding 18 goals and keeping just one clean sheet.
