With their Serie A title hopes all but ended before reaching halfway, AC Milan hope to boost their pursuit of a top-four finish when they visit Hellas Verona on Friday evening.
AC Milan:
AC Milan’s Serie A title challenge appears to be over before the halfway point, as they find themselves 11 points adrift of Inter Milan and 13 behind leaders Atalanta. Their form has been inconsistent, with just one win from their last five league matches, culminating in a disappointing 0-0 draw against Genoa last week. Despite their troubles in the league, Milan have been strong in other competitions, winning four consecutive Champions League matches and advancing to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals. Coach Paulo Fonseca is under pressure, and with Milan sitting in eighth place, only a top-four finish to secure Champions League qualification seems within reach. Their excellent record against Verona – seven straight wins and unbeaten in 11 – will offer hope for a much-needed three points.
Hellas Verona:
Hellas Verona’s position is precarious, hovering just outside the relegation zone after a season full of struggles. Despite a much-needed 3-2 win over Parma in their last match, they have been plagued by inconsistency, especially at home. Verona have trailed for the most minutes in Serie A this season and have not won back-to-back games since March. With 12 losses in league and cup so far, manager Paolo Zanetti's future remains uncertain, though his side did show signs of resilience with their recent win. However, their defensive woes are still a major concern, as they’ve conceded in 13 consecutive league matches. Against a Milan side with a solid record in Verona, it will be a tough task for the Gialloblu to claim points.
