Two teams with contrasting objectives for the 2024-25 Scottish Championship season will face off, as Greenock Morton host Partick Thistle.
Having narrowly missed out on promotion playoff spots in the past two seasons, finishing fifth in both 2022-23 and 2023-24, Greenock Morton were hoping to secure a top-four finish in the Scottish Championship this year. However, their 2024-25 campaign has been disappointing so far, with the team sitting in eighth place on 20 points from 18 matches, having won four, drawn eight, and lost six.
This leaves Morton just four points above Dunfermline, who occupy the relegation playoff spot, although the teams below them have played one game more. After ending a three-match losing streak between matchday 10 and 12 with a 1-1 draw against Ayr United in November, Dougie Imrie's side have shown improvement, going unbeaten in their last six league matches. However, with only two wins in that run, they are desperately in need of a fifth victory to pull clear of the relegation zone.
Their opponents, Partick Thistle, are in a much stronger position, sitting fourth in the table with 32 points from 18 games, having recorded nine wins, five draws, and four losses. Since returning to the Scottish Championship in 2021-22 after winning League One in 2020-21, Partick have consistently been in playoff contention, finishing fourth in both 2021-22 and 2022-23, before improving to third last season. Although they have yet to secure promotion to the Premiership, that remains their primary objective this season.
