Scotland hosts Finland in a friendly on Friday. After a sluggish performance against Gibraltar, Scotland aims for a convincing display.
Scotland began their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with five consecutive wins. That included a home win over Spain but they are not in that kind of form at present. Only two points came from their final three qualifiers but they still comfortably made it to the finals, finishing second behind the Spaniards. They have a tough draw at Euro 2024 with games against Germany, Hungary and Switzerland. The Tartan Army need to find their best form right away as they play Germany in the first match of the tournament on June 14. Monday saw them win 2-0 in Gibraltar but it took them until the 58th minute to open the scoring. That win ended a run of two defeats to the Netherlands (losing 4-0) and at home to Northern Ireland. They'd gone seven games without a win since winning in Cyprus last September. Scotland have gone three home games without a win but had won six in a row before then. This is the ninth game for Scoland against Finland and they are yet to lose with six out of eight won. However, this is the frst time they've met in the 21st century.
Finland have also played this week and lost 4-2 away to Portugal on Tuesday. They trailed 3-0 but two goals from Pukki got them back in the match before another Portugal goal. That was the second successive away game in which the Finns have conceded four goals. Finland finished third in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, four points adrift of Slovenia. They went into the play-offs but suffered a 4-1 away loss in Wales. Their last win came in March when beating Estonia 2-1 at hime. Three of their last four away games have ended in defeat with just three wins in the last ten played.
