Following a formal investigation into the incident involving a drone, the Canadian women's soccer team has been sanctioned for the current Olympic Games group stage. The team has been docked 6 points and fined 200,000 Swiss francs.
The head coach, Ms. Plisteman, and two assistant coaches involved have been banned from any football-related activities for one year.
According to the evaluation of all evidence, the Chair of the FIFA Appeals Committee has imposed the following sanctions on Canada for their unauthorized use of a drone:
1. Deduction of 6 points from the Canadian Women's Soccer Association team's standings in
Group A of the Paris Olympics women's football competition, along with a fine of 200,000 Swiss francs.
2. Head coach Plisteman and the two implicated assistant coaches will be prohibited from participating in any football-related activities for one year.
As of the conclusion of the first round of the group stage, the Canadian women's soccer team had accumulated 3 points, placing them 2nd in the group.
