Chelsea:
Chelsea have the chance to briefly go top of the Premier League when they visit Goodison Park to face Everton on Sunday. With Liverpool not playing until later that day, a victory for Enzo Maresca’s side would push them one point ahead of the league leaders. Chelsea extended their impressive run by becoming the first team this season to win five consecutive Premier League matches, following a 2-1 win over Brentford at Stamford Bridge. Their recent form, which includes eight consecutive wins in all competitions since returning from the November international break, is their best since winning the league under Antonio Conte in 2016-17. However, Chelsea will be wary of their poor record at Goodison Park, having lost five of their last six visits. Despite their recent successes, including a 5-1 thrashing of Shamrock Rovers in midweek, Chelsea’s struggles at Goodison remain a challenge. Maresca will hope to make a statement by securing a rare win in Merseyside to keep their title challenge alive.
Everton:
Everton, meanwhile, are buoyed by a recent defensive resurgence, including a 0-0 draw away to Arsenal in their last outing. Under Sean Dyche, the Toffees have become a resolute defensive unit, keeping the most clean sheets in Europe’s top-five leagues since November 1. However, despite their defensive solidity, their attack continues to be a major concern. Everton have scored just one goal in their last four matches and have the fewest goals from open play in the Premier League this season. Despite a comfortable 4-0 win over Wolves at Goodison, Everton's inability to create and convert chances remains a worrying trend. With the recent takeover by the Friedkin Group providing a boost, Dyche will be hoping his side can find the back of the net more regularly as they aim to maintain their position outside the relegation zone. A win against Chelsea would be a significant step forward in their campaign.
