Manchester United head to the Estadio do Dragao to take on Portuguese giants Porto in their second Europa League match of the season.

Manchester United have endured their joint-worst start to a Premier League season, collecting just seven points and suffering three defeats in their first six matches. Their most recent loss, a disheartening 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, was labeled "disgusting" and described as one of the worst performances under Erik ten Hag by former defender Gary Neville.

Despite speculation about a managerial change, reports indicate that United's hierarchy plans to keep Ten Hag in charge for upcoming away games against Porto and Aston Villa before the international break. However, if performances do not improve soon, the pressure will mount on the 54-year-old, who only signed a two-year contract extension in July.

In contrast to United’s struggles, Porto have made a much stronger start to their domestic season, winning six of their first seven Primeira Liga matches with an impressive aggregate score of 16-1. Their only league defeat came against leaders Sporting Lisbon, who beat them 2-0 at the end of August.

Porto's latest victory came on Sunday against 10-man Arouca, where second-half goals from Samu Omorodion, Nico Gonzalez, Galeno, and Deniz Gul secured a comfortable 4-0 win, solidifying their second-place position in the table.

Historically, Porto has faced Manchester United eight times in European competition, winning only twice. Their victories include a commanding 4-0 win at home in the 1977 European Cup Winners' Cup and a 2-1 triumph in the 2004 Champions League quarter-finals, a campaign that ultimately led them to win the tournament.
