Borussia Dortmund aims to recover from their recent defeat as they host newly-promoted St. Pauli at Signal Iduna Park for their seventh Bundesliga match of the 2024-25 season.

Dortmund had a strong start to the season under new manager Nuri Sahin, winning four of their first five matches. However, the team has struggled recently, losing two of their last four games, including a heavy 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart on September 22. Although BVB managed to bounce back with two wins, including a resounding 7-1 victory over Celtic in the Champions League on October 1, they fell short against Union Berlin in their last outing. 

As a result, Dortmund has now recorded two losses, one draw, and only two wins in their last five Bundesliga matches, conceding 11 goals while scoring 10. Despite this, they maintain a strong home record, having won eight of their last nine games at Signal Iduna Park, netting 32 goals and allowing just nine.

On the other hand, St. Pauli comes into this match tied on points with Hoffenheim, who sit in the relegation playoff position. After a disappointing 3-0 loss to Mainz on October 5—despite having 19 shots but no significant chances—the visitors have struggled to find their rhythm. Manager Alexander Blessin had hoped his team was turning a corner after a 0-0 draw with RB Leipzig and a 3-0 win over Freiburg in their fourth and fifth matches. However, that recent defeat marked their fourth loss of the season.

St. Pauli has found the back of the net only four times this season, the lowest in the Bundesliga, and they began their campaign with three straight losses, managing just one goal in a 3-1 defeat to Augsburg. Additionally, six of their nine conceded goals have come in the second half of matches.
