Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion, both tied on points in the Premier League, will face off at St James' Park.

After winning three of their first four Premier League matches, Newcastle United has struggled lately, failing to secure a win in their last three games. This includes a 3-1 defeat at Fulham and two draws against Manchester City and Everton. The Magpies managed a respectable 1-1 draw at home against Man City but were held to a goalless draw at Everton, where Anthony Gordon missed a first-half penalty against his former team.

Manager Eddie Howe expressed frustration over missed opportunities but noted that his team made "big steps forward" defensively, pleased to earn their first clean sheet since the season opener. Currently sitting seventh in the Premier League, Newcastle is level on points with sixth-placed Brighton and just two points shy of the top four. 

Brighton, after suffering their first defeat under Fabian Hurzeler against Chelsea (4-2), managed a remarkable comeback against Tottenham Hotspur, turning a 2-0 halftime deficit into a 3-2 victory with goals from Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter, and Danny Welbeck. This win extended their unbeaten home record to six matches. 

Hurzeler is focusing on the process rather than immediate results and is looking forward to the challenge against Newcastle. Brighton has performed well in recent encounters with the Magpies, losing only two of their last 14 Premier League meetings (W5 D7), though both losses came in their last three visits to St James' Park.
