After choosing to support their head coach for the time being, Roma is preparing to face Serie A rivals Torino at Stadio Olimpico.
After suffering a 5-1 defeat to Fiorentina last weekend, Roma has dropped into the bottom half of the Serie A standings, fueling speculation about the future of their recently appointed head coach. The Giallorossi narrowly lost to Inter Milan before securing their first win in three Europa League matches, marking a mixed start for Ivan Juric, who took over from club legend Daniele De Rossi.
October has been challenging for Roma, beginning with a loss to Elfsborg and a draw against Monza. They are eager to avoid ending the month with three consecutive Serie A defeats, a first since 2020. Despite top scorer Artem Dovbyk starting to find his form, the team’s expensive attack has struggled to gel, averaging just one goal per game and sitting 14th in the league.
Meanwhile, Paolo Vanoli, who took over as Torino head coach from Juric in the summer, had a strong start, guiding the club near the top of the standings. However, Torino recently faced back-to-back defeats against Lazio and Inter, along with a Coppa Italia exit to Empoli, before suffering another loss right after the last international break.
Losing 3-2 to Cagliari was a tough setback, but Torino managed to bounce back in their latest match, where teenager Alieu Njie scored the winning goal against Como shortly after coming off the bench. Having conceded three goals in three consecutive matches for the first time in four years, Vanoli was pleased to stop that trend and elevate his team to ninth place in the table.
