Bayern Munich must bounce back from a damaging defeat to Bayer Leverkusen when they take on Lazio in the Champions League.

Lazio won 3-1 against Cagliari in Serie A over the weekend to halt a three-game winless run. That is a much-victory for many reasons, as the needed they needed to recapture the momentum of a five-game winning sequence stitched between mid-December and mid-January. As they battle for a top-four spot in Italy staying outside of the pack, their focus could return to Europe where they have had mixed results this season. Lazio won three and lost just two of their last five Champions League games, but one of those defeats came in their most recent match. Yet, they have won their last two such matches at home and have also won three of the last four competitive home games, which should increase their confidence.

Bayern were comprehensively beaten 3-0 by Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, which was just their fifth defeat of the season. Interestingly, each of their last four defeats have been followed by a win and the visitors would be keen to continue that tradition. Their European pedigree is there for all to see, having topped their group with an impressive 16-point collection from Group A, winning five and drawing one of their matches. That included winning all their three away matches and the Bavarians will be looking to repeat that dose. Yet, in a sign of caution to the traveling fans, three of their defeats in this campaign have come on the road.

Though Bayern are not at their fluent best, they have proven prowess on their travels around Europe and boast a versatile attack. As Lazio have been more vulnerable of late, they surely cannot keep the Bavarians at bay for 90 minutes - it may require a major upset for Maurizio Sarri's side to prevail after next month's second leg.
