Arsenal cannot afford to drop points against Brentford and Mikel Arteta's side will see the game at Gtech Community Stadium as a "must-win"
Brentford:
Brentford will be hoping to start 2025 with a bang when they host Arsenal at the Gtech Community Stadium on January 1. Thomas Frank’s side has had an up-and-down run recently, including a 0-0 draw with Brighton on December 27 that saw them avoid a fourth straight loss. Despite their struggles on the road, Brentford have been impressive at home, where they’ve accumulated 22 points – joint-high with Liverpool – and scored 26 goals, the most in the Premier League. However, their defensive vulnerabilities have been evident, as they have yet to keep a clean sheet at home this season. Their task will be to break their recent poor record against Arsenal, having lost the last three encounters at home without scoring. With Brentford sitting 12th in the table, they will be looking to build on their strong home form and cause an upset in this London derby.
Arsenal:
Arsenal, in contrast, will arrive in good form, sitting third in the Premier League after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ipswich Town on December 27. Despite the absence of Bukayo Saka, who will be sidelined for a couple of months due to injury, Mikel Arteta’s side has continued to impress, maintaining an 11-match unbeaten streak in all competitions. Arsenal will also be buoyed by their strong record in London derbies, having gone unbeaten in all 10 of their Premier League encounters against capital rivals in 2024. Their dominance in the capital is further highlighted by their current nine-game streak in London, and with their focus on returning to the top two, they will be confident of overcoming Brentford once again. However, Brentford will be a tough opponent at home, and Arteta’s men will need to continue their impressive form to take all three points.
