Liverpool, the favorite to win the Europa League, will face Serie A side Atalanta in the quarter-finals.
Atalanta have won just three of their last 11 games in all competitions, losing four and drawing four. However, their form in the Europa League has been impressive. Gian Piero Gasperini's team won six and drew three of their nine games so far, scoring 18 goals and conceding just six. The Bergamo-based team topped Group D with 14 points, finishing ahead of Sporting Lisbon. They then knocked Sporting out of the competition in the Round of 16, drawing 1-1 in Portugal before winning 2-1 at home. Atalanta followed up their famous win at Anfield with a 2-2 draw at home against Hellas Verona on Monday in the Serie A. The home side don't keep too many clean sheets, with just two shut-outs in their last 11 matches, both of which came away from home in wins against Napoli and Liverpool.
It is fair to say that Liverpool need another miracle performance to come through this tie. Jurgen Klopp's team have been hugely wasteful in front of goal in the last few games and they are now without a win in three. They suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend, marking the first time all season that Liverpool have lost two consecutive matches. The Reds have lost two of their four away games in the Europa League this season, but still topped Group E with 12 points, scoring 17 goals in their six group stage games. Last time out in the Europa League, the Reds put 11 goals past Sparta Prague over two legs. They will need a very similar performance here if they are to have any chance in this tie. No team has scored more goals in Europe than Liverpool this season and the away team will need those goals to stand any chance here.
