Leicester City will be looking to open up a five-point lead at the top of the EFL Championship table when they play host to Southampton on
What an important weekend it was for Leicester and Southampton. The Foxes had a very difficult game with West Brom at the King Power, but goals from Wilfred Ndidi (22) and Jamie Vardy (65) were enough to give Leicester the 2-1 win, with Jed Wallace (76) grabbing a consolation for West Brom. Those 3-points moved them back to the top of the Championship table, two points ahead of Ipswich and heaps huge pressure on Ipswich and Leeds below them in the table. However, after one tough home game, Leicester now face another against fourth placed Southampton. And it promises to be very tricky indeed, though the home side can point to a superb 4-1 win at St Mary's back when the teams met earlier in the season in the Championship.
Russell Martin’s Southampton team saw goalkeeper Gavin Buzunu go down with an Achilles injury before the midweek game with Preston. He wasn’t missed in that game, but was when the Southampton travelled to Cardiff and ended up losing the game 2-1. The Bluebirds netting a late winner which could prove devastating to Southampton’s automatic promotion hopes. Martin’s team still have to face Leicester and Leeds in their last four games, so they are not out of things just yet. But with just one home game remaining, and facing their two big rivals away, it is a huge ask. We will know a lot more about the positions of both these teams in terms of promotion after this game.
