Atalanta returns to Serie A without tournament motivation following the Europa League victory. Will the magnificent Atalanta keep up its winning streak?
The Europa League champions Atalanta will look to entertain their home fans when they take on Torino in their penultimate match of the season, which will be the last for the visitors. The game at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Sunday will start with the hosts fifth in the standings with 66 points and the visitors ninth with 53 points. Atalanta are coming off a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday in Dublin to win the Europa League. It was a stupendous performance against a side that was unbeaten the entire season! The hosts will now look to end their league season with games against Torino and Fiorentina. Regardless of the results, they are set to finish in the top-five positions and thereby qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Torino have a lot riding on the result of this match, as they chase a top-nine finish and perhaps a shot at European qualification. If Fiorentina win the Europa Conference League and finish no higher than eighth, the ninth placed side will qualify for the Conference League play-off round. That’s now Torino’s, who have a one-point advantage over tenth-placed Napoli. While technically Torino can even finish eighth, that would need them to win here and see Fiorentina slip in their last two league games. Thankfully, their recent form augurs well for their hopes, as Torino have won their last two league games. A 3-1 win over AC Milan last time out puts Torino in a great place, also marking a push in their scoring prowess. They still remain one of the lowest-scoring sides in the division, but their exemplary defence which is one of the best, has made up for that.
