A resurgent Manchester City travel to Brentford on Monday night.
Man City’s search for a fourth consecutive Premier League title isn’t going exactly as planned, although they remain second in the table. Pep Guardiola’s side are five points behind leaders Liverpool, which means that even if they were to win their game in hand, it still wouldn’t be enough to go top. Of course, a game with Liverpool to come in March does mean that Man City’s destiny is very much in their own hands, but they’d rather be leading than chasing. After a rocky period, Man City have won five of their past six games — drawing the other — including three in a row post-Christmas.
Brentford, meanwhile, ended a five-game losing streak by beating Nottingham Forest in their first Premier League game of the year. But they remain in the wrong half of the table. The Bees are currently 15th, three points clear of the relegation zone and while they do have one or two games in hand on many of the teams around them, one is against Man City (but not this fixture). They’ll be hoping to string a run of positive results together now to avoid slipping further down the table.
Faced with the challenge of a fully-fit Man City squad, who have coincidentally won their last three away games in the Premier League despite falling behind in each of them, the Bees' demotion woes should deepen as the Citizens' golden streak continues.
Prediction: Brentford 1-3 Man City
