As the EURO countdown begins, the Netherlands face Canada in a crucial friendly on Thursday at De Kuip. Koeman's squad, eyeing a quarterfinal berth.
The Netherlands need to bounce back from their recent away loss to Germany. They play two friendlies this week beginning with a home game against Canada. Then they play their final match before Euro 2024 with a home game against Iceland on June 10. The Netherlands will want to get a couple of wins under their belt before playing Poland, France and Austria in their Euro 2024 group. Their last match saw them take the lead away to Germany after just four minutes but end up losing the game 2-1. Before that loss, they had won four games in a row without conceding a goal. Greece, Ireland, Gibraltar and Scotland were the four teams defeated. They have won their last two home fixtures with them beating Scotland 4-0 in March. Last year saw them reach the semi-finals of the Europa Nations League and they won three of their four home games in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, only losing to France.
Canada's last match saw them beat Trinidad & Tobago to qualify for the upcoming Copa America tournament. They play in Group A against Argentina, Peru and Chile in that tournament which begins this month. Last year saw them beaten by Jamaica in the CONCACAF Nations League quarter-final. The 2026 World Cup co-hosts won the away first leg 2-1 but lost 3-2 at home and were knocked out on away goals. Only three of their last nine games have been won. Three of the last five played have ended in defeat. Games against European sides haven't gone well for the North Americans. They've only beaten Uzbekistan in their last 12. We tip the Netherlands to win this and lead at both half and full time.
